April 13, 2025: Eva Mendes is beaming with pride for her longtime partner Ryan Gosling — and for good reason. Gosling, who recently starred in The Fall Guy, has been at the forefront of a major Hollywood milestone: getting stunt work officially recognized by the Oscars.
The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS) recently announced the addition of a Stunt Design category at the Oscars, set to debut in 2028. It’s a move that has taken nearly a century and countless daring performances to come to fruition — and Mendes couldn’t be more thrilled.
Taking to Instagram, Mendes wrote,
“My man is the… best! Unfortunately, success is almost only measured by box office. So I’m extra proud of my man for turning his entire Fall Guy press tour into a campaign to get stunts recognized by the Oscars. And now after almost 100 years of stunt design not being acknowledged by the Academy, it’s officially a category!! This is a HUGE success! And an achievement that will last. Congratulations to the incredible stunt community!!”
Gosling, along with The Fall Guy director David Leitch and stunt coordinator Chris O’Hara, played a major role in pushing for the category. Mendes even shared a lighthearted behind-the-scenes photo of Gosling and Leitch standing next to Seth Phillips, the face of the viral “Dude with Sign” Instagram account, holding a sign that read: “Give stunts an Oscar.”
Mendes couldn’t resist adding a bit of humor in her caption as she praised Emily Blunt — Gosling’s Fall Guy co-star — with a playful remark:
“BTW, this is the last time I post a pic of my man and the total babe that is Emily Blunt. No mas!”
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling, who’ve been together since 2011 after meeting on the set of The Place Beyond the Pines, share two daughters — Esmeralda (9) and Amada (7). While the couple is famously private, Mendes has frequently shown public support for Gosling’s career. Just last year, she celebrated his “I’m Just Ken” performance at the 2024 Oscars and his comedic Cuban wife sketch on Saturday Night Live.
With this new Oscar category, the stunt community finally gets its long-overdue moment in the spotlight — and Gosling, Mendes, and the entire Fall Guy team have helped make that happen.
