Farah Khan dismissed rift reports, revealing a long-standing “direct message and call” pact with Deepika to avoid social media communication, confirming they were never following each other.

September 30, 2025: Filmmaker and choreographer Farah Khan has addressed recent reports of a rift with actress Deepika Padukone, clarifying that rumours of them unfollowing each other on Instagram are baseless and that her recent comment about the actress’s 8-hour shift was taken out of context.

Clarification on ‘Unfollow’ Reports

Speaking to Pinkvilla, Farah, who launched Deepika in Om Shanti Om, dismissed claims that they had unfollowed each other following the controversy. She revealed a long-standing communication pact with the actress that precedes the current controversy:

  • No Following Pact: “To begin with, we were not following each other earlier, too!! We had made a pact during the Happy New Year shoot that we wouldn’t communicate on Instagram, instead, direct message and call.”
  • Deepika’s Preference: She added that they are so private about their interactions that they “don’t even wish birthday wishes on Insta because Deepika doesn’t like it.”

The ‘8-Hour Dig’ Was a Joke on Her Cook

Farah also clarified the comment made in her vlog while talking to her cook, Dilip, which was perceived as a dig at Deepika’s reported request for an 8-hour workday.

  • Joke’s Target: “Also, my 8-hour comment wasn’t a dig it was to make Dilip say that he will now also work 8 hours when he actually works just for 2 hours!”

The Reality of Their Friendship

To prove the strength of their relationship, Farah revealed a personal detail about Deepika’s daughter, Dua:

  • First Visitor: “No one even knows I was one of the first few people who went to see Deepika when Dua was born,” she stated, adding that “everything is not done for instagram and paparazzi.”

Slamming Fake Controversies

The filmmaker criticised the emerging trend of creating unfounded controversies, recalling a recent incident where people claimed she and Karan Johar had ignored actor Aayush Sharma on a red carpet, when in reality they had already met him.

  • Warning: “This new trend of fake controversy has to stop… It can genuinely cause problems between people, thankfully I pick up the phone and call them before it gets worse! But people need to stop doing this,” she concluded.

Deepika Padukone and Farah Khan have successfully collaborated on two major box office hits, Om Shanti Om (2007) and Happy New Year (2014). Sources What other fake controversies has Farah Khan addressed?Tell me more about the ‘Happy New Year’ pact. What was the ‘Om Shanti Om’ controversy?
