May 19, 2025 : The latest instalment of Tom Cruise’s blockbuster franchise, Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, hit Indian theatres on May 17, igniting mixed reactions from Bollywood celebrities.

Among the film’s admirers is actor-filmmaker Farhan Akhtar, who took to Instagram Stories to praise the high-octane action and Cruise’s performance.

“Mind-blown!! What a ride… @tomcruise brings the MI series home in style… and how!” Akhtar wrote, clearly thrilled with the experience.

On the other hand, director Kunal Kohli expressed disappointment, calling it an underwhelming chapter in the iconic series.

“They did the impossible. Messed up a #MissionImpossible film. What a yawn fest. Sad end to one of the greatest franchises ever. Will just forget they ever made this one and rewatch the rest of the great MI films. @tomcruise, now make another one. Can’t end like this,” Kohli posted.

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning had its global premiere at the 2025 Cannes Film Festival and is set to release in international markets on May 23. Directed and co-written by Christopher McQuarrie, the film features a returning ensemble cast including Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Ving Rhames, Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, and Angela Bassett.

The plot continues the franchise’s legacy of intense espionage, global threats, and daring stunts led by Ethan Hunt, played by Cruise. Notably, Esai Morales joins the cast as the antagonist Gabriel, with Shea Whigham, Vanessa Kirby, and Greg Tarzan Davis in key supporting roles.

As fans pour into theatres and share reviews online, the film appears to have sparked a debate — with opinions sharply divided on whether this final mission truly hits the mark.
