Father’s Day Without Forgiveness for Prince Harry

June 15, 2025: King Charles marked Father’s Day with a nostalgic post while tensions with his younger son, Prince Harry, continue to linger. On Sunday, June 15, a heartfelt message appeared on the official Instagram account of King Charles and Queen Camilla.

The post featured a touching black-and-white photo of a young Charles and Princess Anne being pushed on a swing by their late father, Prince Philip. Another image showed Queen Camilla with her own late father, Major Bruce Shand.

“To all Dads everywhere, we wish you a happy Father’s Day today,” read the caption—an otherwise warm gesture shadowed by the unresolved royal rift.

The message comes just a day after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle were notably absent from the King’s official birthday celebration, Trooping the Colour, held on June 14. The Duke and Duchess of Sussex were not invited, further highlighting the ongoing distance within the royal family.

Tensions escalated following the couple’s departure from royal duties in 2020 and their move to California with their son, Prince Archie. Their daughter, Princess Lilibet, was born in the U.S. in 2021. A major point of contention remains Harry’s loss of publicly funded U.K. security after stepping back from royal life—something he is still legally fighting for.

In a revealing BBC interview aired on May 2, Prince Harry expressed a desire to mend fences. “I would love reconciliation with my family. There’s no point in continuing to fight anymore,” he said. Citing his father’s cancer diagnosis announced earlier this year, Harry added, “Life is precious. I don’t know how much longer my father has.”

However, he claimed that efforts to reconnect have been blocked. “He won’t speak to me because of this security stuff, but it would be nice to reconcile,” Harry stated. He also admitted he “can’t see a world” where he’d bring Meghan, Archie, and Lilibet back to the U.K. without proper protection.

King Charles continues to undergo cancer treatment, which palace sources have described as progressing positively and being managed effectively.
