Despite being released globally, the Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor starrer Aabeer Gulaal was held back from Indian theatres due to political tensions. However, reports now suggest the film could see a surprise release in India as early as September 26, marking Fawad’s comeback to Indian screens after nearly a decade.

September 12, 2025: Reports say that Aabeer Gulaal, which stars Fawad Khan and Vaani Kapoor, will be released in theaters in India on September 26, after its world premiere. The people who made the movie are sure that the romantic drama can get past the political problems and controversies that have kept it out of Indian theaters thus far.

The movie, which was once called Abir Gulaal, came out in theaters around the world on September 12, however it wasn’t shown in Indian theaters. Its first release was pushed back because tensions were high after the Pahalgam terror assault in April and India’s military response, Operation Sindoor. Fawad Khan’s views on the issue, in which he branded India’s operation a “shameful attack,” led to demands for a boycott and made the controversy over his comeback to Bollywood after over ten years even worse.

Bollywood Hungama said that Indian Stories Limited (UK), the company that made the movie, has suddenly opted to distribute it in India just two weeks after it came out around the world. The source said that there weren’t any other big releases on September 26, therefore Aabeer Gulaal will have the box office to himself.

We are still waiting for an official word from the production company or the actors. If the movie does come out in India, it will be Fawad Khan’s first Bollywood movie since the 2016 ban on Pakistani artists. This is a big deal for his fans and something they have been looking forward to. Aarti S. Bagdi directed the movie, which is a romantic drama that has been called a “simple and sweet love story” in its ads. Amit Trivedi wrote the soundtrack for the movie.
