“Final Destination: Bloodlines” Scares Up Franchise-Best Box Office Debut with $48M Weekend

Warner Bros. rides horror momentum to top the charts as Final Destination: Bloodlines revival leads a strong weekend, with Sinners and Thunderbolts battling for second place.

LOS ANGELES, May 18 – Warner Bros. has scored a hat trick at the box office with Final Destination: Bloodlines, which debuted at No. 1 with a chilling $20.8 million Friday haul, including $5.5 million from Thursday previews. The R-rated horror revival is expected to finish the weekend with $46 million to $48 million, setting a new franchise record and proving the 25-year-old series still has deadly staying power.

Directed by Adam Stein and Zach Lipovsky, Bloodlines follows a young woman (Kaitlyn Santa Juana) who discovers her grandmother once cheated death—unleashing terrifying consequences. The film also stars Teo Briones, Richard Harmon, Tony Todd, and Brec Bassinger.

Bloodlines marks a major resurgence for the long-dormant Final Destination franchise, whose last installment, Final Destination 5, opened with $18 million in 2011.

Warner Bros.’ dominance doesn’t stop there. Ryan Coogler’s social thriller Sinners continues its powerful run in its fifth weekend, closely trailing Disney/Marvel’s Thunderbolts, which is projected to earn $15M–$16M in its third frame, crossing $150M domestically and $300M globally.

Sinners remains a sensation, on track to gross up to $15 million this weekend for a North American total of over $240 million.

Meanwhile, The Minecraft Movie holds strong in its seventh weekend with $5.5M–$6M, maintaining its lead as the highest-grossing film of 2025, raking in over $900 million globally.

Rounding out the top five is The Accountant from Amazon MGM Studios, starring Ben Affleck. It’s expected to earn $4.6 million in its fourth weekend, pushing its domestic total to nearly $60 million.

On the lower end, Lionsgate and Live Nation’s Hurry Up Tomorrow, starring Abel Tesfaye (The Weeknd), Jenna Ortega, and Barry Keoghan, struggled with an estimated $3M–$3.6M opening. The psychological musical thriller received poor reviews and a lukewarm C- CinemaScore from audiences, dampening its impact despite the pop star’s fan base.

At the specialty box office, A24’s Friendship is outperforming expectations. Expanding into 62 theaters, it’s projected to earn $2.5 million with a stellar per-theater average of $23,333 — the best of the weekend.

With a strong mix of horror, franchise revivals, and indie fare, this weekend’s box office landscape proves that there’s room for both scares and stories — provided they’re done right.
