May 24, 2025: In a bombshell revelation, a new biography has claimed that Queen frontman Freddie Mercury fathered a secret daughter at the height of his fame in 1976.
Lesley-Ann Jones’ upcoming book, Love, Freddie, includes a handwritten letter from a woman identified only as “B,” who says she is Mercury’s child. Now 48 and a medical professional living in Europe, “B” describes a deep bond with her father, who passed away in 1991.
“Freddie Mercury was and is my father,” she writes in the letter. “He adored me and was devoted to me, despite the unusual circumstances of my birth.”
A Secret Known Only to a Trusted Few
The biography claims that Mercury’s closest circle — including his former fiancée Mary Austin, his parents, and his sister — knew of his daughter’s existence. Even Mercury’s personal staff reportedly had no idea, reflecting the star’s famously private nature.
Initially skeptical, Jones said she became convinced of “B” and her story after reviewing 17 journals Mercury left to his daughter before his death.
A Carefully Orchestrated Family Arrangement
According to the book, “B” was conceived during an affair with the wife of one of Mercury’s close friends. Raised by her mother and stepfather in a carefully orchestrated arrangement, she says Mercury visited her often and kept in close contact while on tour, speaking to her “every day.”
“Freddie had a room in each of the homes,” Jones writes. “He was a hands-on, devoted dad.”
A Life Kept Quiet
The woman has chosen to remain anonymous.
“The life I live with my husband and our family in another country is intensely private,” she wrote in another letter included in the book. “We cherish our peaceful and anonymous life, and we want nothing to disturb it.”
No Mention in Mercury’s Will
Despite their bond, “B” was not mentioned in Mercury’s will. Instead, she was provided for through private legal arrangements, Jones reveals. The identity of the child’s mother has also not been disclosed.
A Private Side of a Flamboyant Icon
Jones, who has written several biographies of rock legends, believes this revelation underscores Mercury’s fiercely protective nature.
“Freddie was not who you think he was,” she said. “He was an intensely private man who fiercely protected those he loved.”
Love, Freddie is set for release on September 5.
