Gal Gadot, Matthias Schoenaerts Join Forces In WWII Revenge Thriller ‘Ruin’

May 2, 2025: Hollywood stars Gal Gadot and Matthias Schoenaerts are set to headline the upcoming World War II thriller Ruin, with acclaimed director Niki Caro at the helm, according to a report by Variety. The project, steeped in post-war drama and vengeance, brings together a powerful cast and a creative team known for their work on high-profile films.

Set in the aftermath of WWII in Germany, Ruin tells the gripping story of a recently released concentration camp prisoner (played by Gadot) who forms an unlikely alliance with a former German soldier (Schoenaerts). United by personal loss and a thirst for justice, the duo embarks on a harrowing mission to hunt down members of a rogue Nazi SS squad responsible for wartime atrocities.

The film is written by Kaz and Ryan Firpo, the duo behind Marvel’s Eternals, and promises a tense, emotional journey through the ruins of a shattered Europe. Niki Caro, best known for directing Disney’s Mulan and the WWII drama The Zookeeper’s Wife, brings her experience in historical storytelling to the forefront once again. Caro’s debut film, Whale Rider, gained international acclaim and earned its young lead, Keisha Castle-Hughes, an Oscar nomination — making her one of the youngest nominees for Best Actress at the time.

Ruin will be produced by Marc Butan of MadRiver Pictures alongside Gadot and her husband Jaron Varsano through their production company, Pilot Wave Motion Pictures. Niki Caro will also join the producing team.

Gadot remains a major force in Hollywood, currently filming The Runner for MGM Amazon and recently portraying the Evil Queen in Disney’s upcoming Snow White. She also wrapped filming on Hand of Dante, directed by Julian Schnabel.

Meanwhile, Matthias Schoenaerts is set to appear in several upcoming projects, including Netflix’s The Old Guard 2 and Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow.

With a strong cast, a seasoned director, and a powerful narrative rooted in vengeance and redemption, Ruin is shaping up to be one of the most anticipated war dramas in the pipeline.
