Gangam Style Star PSY booked For Taking Sleeping Pills With Proxy Prescriptions
South Korean police are investigating globally renowned singer PSY for allegedly violating the country’s Medical Service Act. The singer’s agency, P NATION, has released a statement admitting to a “mistake” in the process of obtaining prescriptions.
August 28, 2025: The Seodaemun Police Station arrested PSY, a global sensation well known for his 2012 song “Gangnam Style,” for allegedly breaking South Korea’s Medical Service Act. People think that the 48-year-old singer got prescriptions for psychotropic drugs like Xanax and Stilnox without having to go to the doctor in person.
Reports say that authorities have started an investigation after receiving a tip-off that PSY has been getting prescriptions since 2022 and having someone else, like his manager, pick them up for him. According to South Korean legislation, prescriptions for these very tightly controlled pharmaceuticals can only be given after talking directly with the patient, and no one else is allowed to collect them. Since then, investigators have searched a university hospital in Seoul to get medical documents that are important to the investigation.
PSY’s agency, P NATION, put out a formal statement on Thursday in response to the accusations. They admitted to some of the claims but denied the ones about giving out medications without permission. The agency admitted that it was a “clear mistake and lapse in judgment” to have someone else pick up the drugs for the artist.
The statement made it clear that PSY has been diagnosed with a long-term sleep issue and has been taking the medicine in the right amount and under rigorous medical supervision. The agency said, “His use of sleeping pills has always been under medical supervision, with prescriptions given for the right amount.” “However, during the process, there were times when a third party picked up the sleeping tablets for him, and the authorities are now looking into it. We are sorry again for making you worry.
The doctor in question has apparently denied any wrongdoing, saying that the therapy was done through lawful remote consultations. However, police are currently looking into both the singer and the doctor. After carefully looking over his stolen medical documents, they are likely to think about calling PSY in for more questioning.
