Gigi Hadid Opens Up About Auditioning for Disney’s Live-Action ‘Tangled’ as Rapunzel

Supermodel reflects on her surprising Disney audition and why the project is now on pause

Washington, DC [US], September 9 – Supermodel Gigi Hadid has revealed a little-known chapter from her career: she once auditioned to play Rapunzel in Disney’s live-action remake of Tangled.

In her latest cover story conversation with Kendall Jenner, Hadid shared that the experience pushed her out of her comfort zone. “What do we do in this job anymore that scares us?” she reflected. Though she did not land the role, Hadid added, “I was really proud of my scene.”

Pushing Beyond Fashion Into Disney Dreams

Preparing for the role wasn’t easy. Even in the middle of fashion month, Hadid made time to take singing lessons, knowing full well that Disney might ultimately prefer a professional singer. “I knew they were going to go with a real singer,” she admitted, but revealed she still gave her best.

Hadid even told Jenner she planned to share her audition tape with her — a rare behind-the-scenes look at her effort to break into the acting world.

Disney’s Tangled Remake Put on Hold

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Disney had been actively developing the live-action version of its 2010 hit Tangled, with The Greatest Showman director Michael Gracey attached and Jennifer Kaytin Robinson working on the script.

However, the project has now been paused. Insiders say the decision follows Disney’s underwhelming box-office performance with Snow White and the controversies surrounding it.

Disney still has big projects on its calendar — most notably, the live-action remake of Moana, set for release on July 10, 2026.

Corey Mylchreest and the Flynn Rider Role

Hadid wasn’t the only familiar face to try her luck. Actor Corey Mylchreest, known for My Oxford Year, auditioned for the role of Flynn Rider. Joking about his attempt, he said:

“We don’t have the footage anymore. I deleted it and then I burnt it and then I burnt the phone that I filmed on. And then I burnt the room that I did it in. And then I burnt myself. No, it wasn’t very good. They then told me that they wanted someone with singing experience.”

A Peek Into the Future

While Disney’s Tangled may remain in limbo, Hadid’s revelation adds an exciting layer to her public persona — from runway royalty to an aspiring fairy-tale heroine. Fans may not see her as Rapunzel on the big screen anytime soon, but her willingness to step into a new world shows her fearless spirit and versatility.
