Glenn Close, Jeremy Irons joins cast of Simon Curtis’s ‘Encore’

More than three decades after their collaboration in “Reversal of Fortune,” actors Jeremy Irons and Glenn Close are reuniting for the upcoming comedy “Encore.” Directed by Simon Curtis, this best-agers comedy will see the duo bring to life former Broadway stars who find themselves in a retirement home, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

In “Encore,” Irons and Close will play Nigel and Marie, respectively. The plot unfolds as they discover a community of former talents in their new home and Marie orchestrates a theatrical performance aimed at revitalizing Nigel’s passion for theater and helping him embrace this new phase of their lives.

The film will also feature veteran actors Henry Winkler and Don Johnson, adding to the star-studded ensemble. The script is penned by Oscar-nominated writer Robert Nelson Jacobs and will be produced by Wyck Godfrey, Marty Bowen, and Isaac Klausner of Temple Hill Entertainment, known for their work on the “Twilight” and “Maze Runner” series.

Glenn Close, an 8-time Academy Award nominee, continues to receive critical acclaim, notably for her role in the 2017 film “The Wife,” which earned her BAFTA and Oscar nominations. She has also appeared in major films like “Guardians of the Galaxy” and has been active on streaming platforms with movies such as “Hillbilly Elegy,” “Heart of Stone,” and “Swan Song.”

Jeremy Irons, known for his Emmy-nominated role as Adrian Veidt in the “Watchmen” miniseries, has been involved in several high-profile projects recently. His recent works include playing Rodolfo Gucci in Ridley Scott’s “House of Gucci,” Alfred Pennyworth in DC’s “The Flash” and Zack Snyder’s “Justice League,” and a supporting role in “The Beekeeper” with Jason Statham.
