Golden Globes: Poor Things Wins Best Musical or Comedy Film

The Golden Globes for 2024 have chosen “Poor Things” as the best picture in a musical or comedy. People says that “Air,” “American Fiction,” “Barbie,” “The Holdovers,” and “May December” were the other movies that were up for best song or comedy film. Poor Things is a science fiction, fantasy, black comedy movie coming out in 2023. It was directed by Yorgos Lanthimos and written by Tony McNamara. It’s based on Alasdair Gray’s book of the same name from 1992. A lot of big names are in the movie, like Willem Dafoe, Christopher Abbott, Emma Stone, and Mark Ruffalo.

Before giving his victory speech, director Yorgos Lanthimos called out a special person who had been there and whom he had looked up to for a long time. He said, “I just wanted to talk to Bruce Springsteen all night.” Lanthimos, 50, said. “Our birthdays are the same—September 23.” Since I was a kid, he’s been my hero. The director thanked Springsteen, 74, as well as the cast and team of Poor Things. He called Emma Stone, winner of an acting award, “the best.”

The 35-year-old Stone worked with Lanthimos again on 2018’s The Favourite. Stone played Bella Baxter, a dead woman who is brought back to life by a doctor played by Willem Dafoe.
The movie shows Bella as she learns how to live with other people again, travels the world with Mark Ruffalo’s womanizing lawyer, and becomes a fighter for women’s rights. Stone, Dafoe, 68, and Ruffalo, 56, were all nominated for acting awards (Stone won!). Lanthimos was nominated for best director. People said that Poor Things was also nominated for Best Original Score and Best Screenplay.
The 81st Golden Globes are being held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills, California.
