Govinda Recalls Attraction To Neelam Kothari: ‘Hum Bawaal Machate The’

Veteran Bollywood actor Govinda recently opened up about his past equation with actress Neelam Kothari, admitting that he was deeply attracted to her during the time they worked together in several hit films in the late 1980s and early 1990s.

In an interview with Siddharth Kannan, Govinda reflected on their strong on-screen chemistry and the rumours about their relationship that were widely discussed during that era, even though the actor was already married at the time.

Talking about his admiration for Neelam, Govinda said her “doll-like” personality left a strong impression on him. He recalled that before working with her, he used to watch her films and whistle in admiration, never imagining that he would one day share the screen with her.

He also spoke about the nature of relationships in the film industry back then. According to Govinda, the romance of that era was very different from today’s relationships. “Back then, affairs were not like they are now. Hum bawaal machate the… lagta tha kuch chal raha hai. Pehle wala romance bas dekhne aur mehsoos karne wala hota tha,” he said, adding that their collaborations often created a lot of buzz among fans.

The actor emphasised that their professional partnership produced several successful films and popular songs, which played a big role in making them one of the most loved on-screen pairs of that time.

Govinda and Neelam worked together in a number of successful films including Love 86, Ilzaam, Khudgarz, Sindoor, Billoo Badshah, and Gharana. Their chemistry on screen was widely appreciated by audiences and contributed to the success of many of these projects.

While Govinda has largely stayed away from films in recent years after his last appearance in Rangeela Raja, Neelam Kothari was most recently seen in the reality series Fabulous Lives of Bollywood Wives, which premiered its third season in 2024.
