Govinda’s Daughter Tina Ahuja Recalls ‘Near-Death’ Scare After Actor’s Accidental Gunshot

Actor Govinda’s daughter, Tina Ahuja, has spoken out about the accidental self-inflicted gunshot incident that occurred last year at their Mumbai residence, revealing the shock and distress the family experienced.

Last October, the actor, affectionately known as Chi Chi, accidentally shot himself with his licensed revolver when it slipped from his hand, resulting in a bullet wound to his left knee. Tina Ahuja rushed him to Criticare Hospital, where he underwent surgery to remove the bullet and was discharged a few days later.

In a recent interview with Filmygyan, Tina was asked about the moment she broke down in tears when Govinda was discharged. She explained her tears were a “tear of victory”:

“That time, it was my tear of victory. Because at that moment, I had literally prayed so much to God… I was so happy at that time that my father was healthy, happy, and he was out of it.”

Tina revealed the actor’s struggle during his hospital stay, noting he was initially in the ICCU before being moved to the ICU. She mentioned Govinda’s “desi” nature made him resistant to hospital procedures like drips and antibiotics, adding to her worry.

Recounting the Accident

Recalling the day of the shooting, Tina revealed the stark visual of the injury:

“Because when that gunshot happened, I was the one who took him to the hospital, and I had seen he was going… He was actually going for an event to Calcutta, and it was an early morning flight. And I clearly saw, just like it is in movies… He was wearing a white pant, white jeans, and a white t-shirt and jacket. That entire white jeans had turned completely red (poora laal ho gaya tha).

She credited her father’s resilience to his experience in films, saying, “I told him, ‘Papa, this is all thanks to all your movies,’ that he had the courage to fight back and to go to the hospital. It was just that, a tear of joy, that thank you God he’s back.”

On the work front, Govinda is set to make his comeback to the screen after six years with the film Duniyadari. His wife, Ssunita Ahuja, has launched a YouTube vlog channel, and their son, Yashvardhan Ahuja, will soon make his Bollywood debut.
