“Hang In There”: How Salman Khan Supported Mithun Chakraborty’s Son Mimoh After His Debut Film Flopped

Mimoh recalls how Salman Khan stood by him through his lowest phase, offering emotional support and encouragement after his debut film Jimmy failed at the box office.

April 8, 2025: Actor Mimoh Chakraborty, son of veteran star Mithun Chakraborty, recently reflected on one of the most difficult periods of his life—when his debut film Jimmy tanked at the box office. In a candid interview, Mimoh revealed how Salman Khan played a crucial role in helping him stay afloat emotionally during that tough phase.

Mimoh shared that it was Salman bhai who pushed for the teaser of Jimmy to be played in theatres alongside the blockbuster Partner (2007), which starred Salman and Govinda.

“Salman bhai has helped me a lot. He has always been there. He has been an elder brother. He loves dad. He suggested that Jimmy’s teaser be shown with Partner. The film’s title was also given by Sohail Khan,” Mimoh said.

Despite a promising start—audiences whistling and cheering for him when the teaser played in packed cinemas—Mimoh said the crash came fast and hard.

“I was 24 and thought I had arrived. But by Friday afternoon, after the release, the phones stopped ringing. Cheques bounced. My whole world came crashing down. I didn’t step out of the house for a year,” he confessed.

Years later, while Salman Khan was filming Sultan, he invited Mimoh to visit the set. What he said that day stayed with him forever.

“He called my mom and said, ‘Send him to the set.’ When I reached, he pointed to me and told his assistant director, ‘You think you’re struggling? At least you have a chance. He’s not even getting the opportunity to struggle.’ That hit me hard. But then he told me to hang in there, and that he would stand by me when the time was right.”

Mimoh was recently seen in Netflix’s Khakee: The Bengal Chapter, and credits Salman Khan for motivating him to keep going despite the setbacks. His story is a reminder of how important empathy and mentorship can be in an unforgiving industry.

Released in 2008, Jimmy was directed by Raj N Sippy and featured Vivana Singh and Rahul Dev. The film earned just ₹1.86 crore at the box office.
