Hansal Mehta shares his reviews on Shah Rukh Khan’s ‘Dunki’

The audience’s reactions to superstar Shah Rukh Khan’s newly released drama flick “Dunki” were not quite unanimous. Director Hansal Mehta discussed his opinions on the movie on X (previously Twitter) on Monday. Mehta commented, “#Dunki was a lot of fun. Not flawless, but whatever. It’s all right. I got what I was missing from the movies. It was a tribute to the simpler, more innocent, nostalgic times when our movies were made. I don’t want to overthink or analyze this movie. Any day, give me a movie by @RajkumarHirani. It’s nice to have @iamsrk play the softie, tug at your heartstrings, and look into her loving eyes as the year comes to a conclusion.”

He went on to refer to “Dunki” as a Rajkumar Hirani movie in its entirety. The movie, which isn’t a drama, comedy, tragedy, or thriller, has a lovely cast and a timeless appeal. All the way through, it is a Rajkumar Hirani movie. Go watch it and make your own judgment,” Mehta said in closing. With “Dunki,” SRK and filmmaker Rajkumar Hirani—who has previously directed blockbusters like “PK,” “Sanju,” “3 Idiots,” and “Munna Bhai”—work together for the first time. After “Dunki” debuted in theaters on December 21, it has been the buzz of the town. Both reviewers and viewers have differing opinions on the movie, which has so far made over Rs. 211.13 crore in revenue globally.

Taapsee Pannu, Vicky Kaushal, Anil Grover, Boman Irani, and Vikram Kochhar are also featured in “Dunki.” At one of the Dubai events, Shah Rukh Khan called “Dunki” his finest movie.”I didn’t make anything for myself when I made Jawan, so I assumed it was a movie for boys and girls. Then, I made Dunki. Thus, this is my movie. I hold this movie in the highest regard. When I was working on Pathaan, a lot of critics—those who know more about movies than the directors—commented on the kinds of parts I was playing. This made me feel that I should only work on movies that I truly love, which is why I did all the movies this year. I want to close the year with a movie for me, but I started the year with Pathaan, which was always ladies first. Please make time on December 21 to watch Dunki. There is something in the movie for everyone to relate to. You’ll laugh out loud watching the movie”, he said.

“Dunki” centers on the immigration debate. The phrase “donkey journey”—which describes the tortuous, frequently hazardous paths that individuals travel around the world to get to their desired immigration destinations—is derived from the title of the book. Due to Dunki’s popularity, SRK has three consecutive hits in his collection. He released “Pathaan” in January, shattering many box office records, and he captivated audiences with “Jawan,” directed by Atlee, in September.
