March 2, 2025: Actor Harrison Ford, who was originally scheduled to present at the 97th Academy Awards, has unfortunately had to back out due to a recent shingles diagnosis. The 82-year-old star, who has been a fixture in Hollywood for decades, is reportedly resting and recovering from the viral infection, which is known for causing a painful rash.
Shingles, a condition that affects the nerves and skin, is not uncommon among older adults, and Ford’s medical team has recommended he take it easy as he heals. While Ford will not be able to attend the prestigious event as planned, he is reportedly doing fine and focusing on rest.

Before his shingles diagnosis, Ford had made recent public appearances, including attending the red carpet for Captain America: Brave New World and the second season of 1923. During the 1923 premiere, Ford spoke about the allure of working on the Western series, saying, “I love the physical nature of the storytelling, I love being in natural circumstances… it’s really essential, old-time storytelling, and I love working with this kind of material.”
As for the Oscars, the ceremony will go on as scheduled, with other high-profile stars set to present. Confirmed presenters for the night include Academy Award winners Robert Downey Jr., Emma Stone, and Cillian Murphy, along with stars like Oprah Winfrey, Selena Gomez, and Ben Stiller.
The 97th Academy Awards, hosted by Conan O’Brien, will take place at the Dolby Theatre and air live on ABC on March 2, 2025. It will also be available for streaming on Hulu. Despite Ford’s absence, the ceremony promises to be an exciting one, with a star-studded lineup of presenters and performances.
