‘Harry Potter’ Star Warwick Davis Set To Be Honoured With Prestigious BAFTA’s Fellowship Award

January 11, 2025: Warwick Davis, the beloved actor known for his iconic roles in Harry Potter and Star Wars, is set to receive the prestigious BAFTA Fellowship at the upcoming EE BAFTA Film Awards on February 16, 2025. The BAFTA Fellowship is the highest honour awarded by the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA), recognizing individuals who have made exceptional contributions to film, television, or gaming industries.

Davis is widely celebrated for his portrayal of Professor Filius Flitwick in the Harry Potter series and Wicket the Ewok in Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi (1983). His extensive career spans decades, and his work in major franchises has earned him global recognition. Beyond his on-screen contributions, Davis has also been an advocate for inclusivity and representation, particularly for those living with dwarfism.

In a heartfelt statement following the announcement of the award, Davis expressed his gratitude for the recognition and emphasized the importance of embracing uniqueness in the industry. He dedicated the Fellowship to everyone living with dwarfism or any form of difference, acknowledging that such uniqueness can be a source of strength. He also paid tribute to the behind-the-scenes teams who make significant contributions to every production.

Davis’s impact extends beyond his acting career. Diagnosed with a rare form of dwarfism called spondyloepiphyseal dysplasia congenita, he founded Willow Management, an agency that represents actors under five feet tall, and co-founded Little People UK, a charity dedicated to supporting individuals with dwarfism and their families. He also established the Reduced Height Theatre Company to support actors who fall outside traditional casting molds.

Throughout his career, Davis has contributed to film and television with roles in Willow (1988), Life’s Too Short (2011-2013), and other notable projects, further solidifying his place as a key figure in the industry.

Sara Putt, BAFTA Chair, praised Davis for his inspiring career and his ability to captivate audiences for decades. His recognition as a BAFTA Fellow places him among the ranks of legendary figures such as Alfred Hitchcock, Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Judi Dench, Sean Connery, and Elizabeth Taylor.

This well-deserved honor celebrates not only Davis’s incredible talent but also his tireless efforts to pave the way for greater inclusivity in the entertainment industry.
