Sources confirm Kalki 2 is in pre-production and no casting discussions have taken place yet, rubbishing reports of on-set friction

Reports claiming that actress Deepika Padukone has been dropped from the upcoming film Kalki 2 due to tensions with co-star Prabhas or the film’s team are completely unfounded, according to sources close to the production.

The rumours suggested that Deepika had been removed from the sequel following supposed friction on the sets of Kalki 2898 AD, but industry insiders have dismissed this narrative as “absolutely false.”

“Kalki 2 is still in the pre-production phase. There are no sets, no shoot, and no actor meetings as of now—so the question of friction is baseless,” said a source familiar with the development.

Speculation Sparked by ‘Spirit’ Exit

The speculation may have stemmed from Deepika reportedly stepping away from director Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s upcoming project Spirit, allegedly over her preference for working fixed 8-hour shifts. Vanga’s subsequent cryptic tweets criticizing actors for “wanting luxury” were widely interpreted as jabs at Deepika. The casting of Triptii Dimri in Spirit soon after further fueled rumours.

However, sources clarified that this narrative has wrongly bled into reports around Kalki 2, creating an inaccurate picture of professional conflict between Deepika and the team behind the film.

Kalki 2 Yet to Begin Casting

Insiders have confirmed that no actors have been officially approached for Kalki 2 since the script and production plan are still being finalised. Until the film moves past its development stage, casting discussions are premature.

“They haven’t even begun casting yet. Conversations will happen once pre-production is complete,” the source said.

Deepika Padukone, who plays a central role in Kalki 2898 AD, continues to be a significant name associated with the sequel unless officially stated otherwise by the production house.
