Actor-turned-politician Hema Malini celebrated the 10th International Day of Yoga by performing yoga in Mathura.
In a conversation with ANI, she emphasized the global importance of yoga, saying, “Lord Krishna spread the message of Yoga all over the world…Everyone should practice yoga daily.”
Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked the occasion at the Sher-i-Kashmir International Conference Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar. He congratulated people across the globe practicing yoga and noted the growth of a “Yoga economy” over the past decade. Addressing an event in Srinagar, Modi said, “Today, from the land of Kashmir, I congratulate everyone around the world on International Yoga Day! Ten years ago, I proposed the celebration of International Yoga Day at the United Nations. India’s proposal was supported by 177 nations, which is a record in itself. In 2015, on Kartavyapath in Delhi, 35,000 people performed Yogasanas together.”
This year’s International Day of Yoga underscores yoga’s profound impact on young minds and bodies, aiming to unite thousands globally in the practice of yoga to promote health and wellness. The theme, “Yoga for Self and Society,” highlights yoga’s essential role in fostering individual well-being and societal harmony.
Since 2015, PM Modi has led International Day of Yoga (IDY) celebrations at various iconic locations, including Kartavya Path in Delhi, Chandigarh, Dehradun, Ranchi, Lucknow, Mysuru, and even the United Nations Headquarters in New York. This year, the celebrations span across the nation, featuring a special event called “Yoga for Space,” where all ISRO centers and units will participate in the practice of the Common Yoga Protocol (CYP). Globally, Indian Embassies and Missions will join the celebrations, reflecting yoga’s widespread influence and significance.
