Here’s How Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible 8 Earned $12M Before Its U.S. Release

May 19, 2025: Mission: Impossible — The Final Reckoning is off to a flying start, earning a massive $12 million in just two days across five early-release countries — a full week ahead of its global premiere. The film, which sees Tom Cruise return as Ethan Hunt, is already breaking box office records and building strong momentum ahead of its May 23 release in the U.S. and other major markets.

Released early on May 17 in India, Japan, South Korea, and the Australia–New Zealand region, the film has made a powerful impact:

In South Korea, the film drew over 750,000 viewers, making it the biggest opening for any film in the country this year. It has already grossed $5 million in its first two days, according to Korea JoongAng Daily.

In Japan, Collider reports that it brought in $2 million during the same period.

In India, as per Sacnilk, the action blockbuster earned a strong ₹33 crore (around $4 million), bolstered by its multilingual release in English, Hindi, Tamil, and Telugu.

The Australia-New Zealand region contributed just under $1 million to the tally.

With $12 million already in the bank, Mission Impossible 8 is expected to cross $20 million globally before even hitting U.S. theatres on May 23. Projections for North America suggest a stunning $100+ million opening, with even more robust figures anticipated from overseas markets — including the crucial China release, confirmed for May 30.

This strong early performance has heightened expectations that The Final Reckoning could become the franchise’s first billion-dollar entry, as it leads Hollywood’s summer blockbuster season.

Star-Studded Cast and Global Appeal

Directed once again by Christopher McQuarrie, The Final Reckoning boasts a star-studded ensemble including Hayley Atwell, Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Vanessa Kirby, Pom Klementieff, Angela Bassett, Esai Morales, Henry Czerny, and Nick Offerman, among others.

Presented by Paramount Pictures and Skydance, the film continues Ethan Hunt’s high-octane journey, with explosive action sequences and global stakes — promising fans the most epic chapter yet.

As the film gears up for its global rollout, the early numbers suggest one thing: Ethan Hunt is far from done, and Mission: Impossible is racing toward yet another milestone in cinematic history.
