July 27, 2025: Los Angeles, CA – Producer Hit-Boy has announced his liberation from a “brutal” 18-year publishing deal, giving significant credit to none other than his long-time idol, Jay-Z. The news, shared by Hit-Boy on Instagram, highlights a common struggle in the music industry where artists often find themselves in exploitative contracts.
Hit-Boy, who signed the deal at just 19 years old and remained under its terms until the age of 37, revealed that it prevented him from owning the publishing rights to many of his hit productions. However, connections forged over nearly two decades proved invaluable, especially his relationship with Jay-Z.

“The first CD I ever bought with my own money was The Blueprint by Jay-Z when I was 13 years old,” Hit-Boy prefaced his announcement. He then recalled producing “N****s in Paris” for Jay-Z, a song that marked an early milestone in his career. After the track’s success, Jay-Z jokingly offered him a plane if he could produce another hit of that caliber.
“But today I can say he got me something more valuable than a plane or anything tangible. He helped secure my freedom from an 18-year publishing deal I was stuck in,” Hit-Boy continued. He extended his gratitude, adding, “Much appreciation to Desiree Perez for also making this happen — the love and respect on my end runs deep and I appreciate all the help frr.”
Now, with newfound freedom and the wisdom gained from years in the industry, Hit-Boy looks forward to maximizing his opportunities and starting anew.
