It seems the spell to conjure Hocus Pocus 3 is still simmering in the cauldron.

Appearing on a recent episode of Watch What Happens Live! with Andy Cohen, Sarah Jessica Parker, who plays the quirky witch Sarah Sanderson, was asked about progress on the much-awaited third installment of the beloved Disney Halloween franchise.

“No more developments other than we would like to do it,” Parker shared candidly. “We’ve been having some conversations.”

While the statement doesn’t confirm production has begun, it does indicate that the original stars are enthusiastic and engaged in behind-the-scenes discussions.

From Cult Classic to Streaming Hit

Originally released in 1993, Hocus Pocus, directed by Kenny Ortega, has become a perennial Halloween favorite. The story follows three comical yet sinister witches — Winifred (Bette Midler), Sarah (Sarah Jessica Parker), and Mary (Kathy Najimy) — who are accidentally resurrected in Salem, Massachusetts, by a teenage boy on Halloween night.

In 2022, Disney+ released Hocus Pocus 2, a long-awaited sequel that reunited the iconic Sanderson sisters. Directed by Anne Fletcher and written by Jen D’Angelo, the film introduced the witches to a modern world and received positive reactions from longtime fans, quickly becoming one of the platform’s most-watched titles.

What We Know About Hocus Pocus 3

In a 2023 interview with The New York Times, Sean Bailey, President of Walt Disney Studios Motion Picture Production, confirmed that Hocus Pocus 3 was officially in development. Fletcher and D’Angelo were both tapped to return, continuing their creative roles from the second installment.

However, there has been little official movement since then. In her own comments last year, Bette Midler expressed eagerness to begin — with a fair bit of urgency.

“I haven’t seen a script, but I’ve heard rumblings,” Midler said. “If they’re gonna [do it], they oughtta because time is not just marching. Time is barrel-assing to the finish line. Get us while we’re still breathing, I mean, God!”

Parker’s Other Projects

While Hocus Pocus 3 continues to brew in development, Parker is staying busy. She currently stars in Season 3 of HBO Max’s And Just Like That…, the continuation of the iconic Sex and the City series, alongside Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon. The show explores the evolving lives of Carrie, Charlotte, and Miranda in their 50s.

Parker is also producing The Librarians, a Sundance-premiered documentary that highlights library workers battling rising book bans across the U.S.
