April 18, 2025: Ben Affleck, who played the Caped Crusader in multiple DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films, recently opened up about one of the most iconic yet uncomfortable aspects of portraying Batman — the Batsuit.
In a candid interview reported by Variety, Affleck described the suit as “horrendous to wear,” citing extreme heat, a lack of breathability, and overall discomfort. “They’re hot, for one thing. They don’t breathe. They’re made to look the way they want them to look. There’s no thought put into the human being,” he shared, adding that it was difficult to feel heroic when he was sweating profusely inside the heavy costume.
Affleck, who donned the suit in films like Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice and Justice League, emphasized that the physical toll of wearing the costume made shooting particularly exhausting and uncomfortable.
With a touch of humor, he acknowledged that other actors who’ve played Batman — Christian Bale and Robert Pattinson — may have been better suited for the challenge, joking that they might have handled the demands of the suit more gracefully.
Affleck isn’t the first to critique Batman’s costume. The Batsuit has faced scrutiny over the years, most notably when director Tim Burton expressed his distaste for the infamous “Batnipple” suit worn by George Clooney in Batman & Robin.
Despite the discomfort, Affleck’s portrayal of Batman left a lasting impression, contributing to a darker and more complex vision of the character within the DCEU.
