Housefull 5 Becomes 2025’s Second-Highest Grossing Indian Film by Earning This Much Worldwide

Akshay Kumar’s star-studded comedy overtakes L2: Empuraan and Sankranthiki Vasthunam, earning ₹300 crore globally and ₹200 crore net in India within 25 days.

July-2, 2025: Housefull 5, the latest installment in Sajid Nadiadwala’s comedy franchise, has emerged as the second-highest-grossing Indian film of 2025, following the runaway success of Chhaava. Starring Akshay Kumar, the film has now surpassed the lifetime collections of Mohanlal’s L2: Empuraan and Venkatesh’s Sankranthiki Vasthunam.

Released in theatres on June 6, the film opened to a strong start and sustained its momentum over the following weeks. According to the makers, Housefull 5 has earned ₹300 crore globally and ₹200 crore net in India within 25 days of release.

With this, it has overtaken the ₹265.5 crore domestic haul of L2: Empuraan and the ₹255 crore collection of Sankranthiki Vasthunam. Earlier, it had also surpassed Ajay Devgn’s Raid 2 to become the second-highest Bollywood grosser of the year.

Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 is a comedic murder mystery set aboard a cruise ship, where a billionaire (played by Ranjeet) is found dead shortly after declaring his will. Chaos ensues as three identical men named Jolly — played by Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan — become the prime suspects.

The film features a massive ensemble cast including Nana Patekar, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, Sanjay Dutt, Jackie Shroff, and Johnny Lever. Interestingly, the movie was released with two different endings, adding to its appeal and rewatch value.

While audiences hailed the film as possibly the best in the Housefull franchise, some critics pointed out its underdeveloped female characters, calling out its focus on appearances over substance.

Chhaava, starring Vicky Kaushal, Rashmika Mandanna, and Akshaye Khanna, still holds the top spot for 2025 with a global total of ₹807.88 crore and ₹601.54 crore from India.
