Housefull 5 Roars Past ₹119 Crore: Akshay Kumar's Comic Franchise Refuses to Slow Down
June 10, 2025: The Housefull franchise continues its blockbuster legacy, with the fifth instalment officially entering the ₹100-crore club within just four days of its release. Directed by Tarun Mansukhani, Housefull 5 has become one of the fastest comedy films of the year to reach this milestone, thanks to its massive ensemble cast and crowd-pulling humour.
According to early estimates, the film raked in ₹13.1 crore on Monday (Day 4), a notable hold for a weekday. Its highest single-day collection came on Sunday with a whopping ₹32.5 crore, pushing the total to ₹101 crore in just four days. The film’s performance has already surpassed the lifetime earnings of Kesari Chapter 2 (₹92.53 crore) and is now eyeing Sky Force’s ₹149-crore benchmark.
The film features a colourful cast including Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, Abhishek Bachchan, Fardeen Khan, Jackie Shroff, Nana Patekar, and Johny Lever, along with Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Sonam Bajwa, and Soundarya Sharma. Backed by Sajid Nadiadwala’s Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the comedy unfolds on a luxury cruise where three men, all named Jolly, are caught in a hilarious murder mystery.
In a rare and bold move for Indian cinema, Housefull 5 has two different endings, depending on the version you watch. Director Tarun Mansukhani revealed that producer Sajid Nadiadwala had this idea decades ago. “It was one of the most exciting things for me as a director — to make a film with two different climaxes,” he said.
While audiences are turning out in large numbers, not everyone is impressed. News18 Showsha rated the film 2.5 out of 5 stars, calling it bloated with “unnecessary dance numbers” and lacking sharpness in its comedy. The review criticized the film’s pacing and overuse of music, urging the franchise to innovate further in future instalments.
With strong weekday earnings and positive audience reactions despite mixed critical reviews, Housefull 5 is expected to maintain momentum throughout its first week. The film’s unique approach and box office dominance make it one of the most talked-about releases of 2025.
