Housefull 5 Roars with ₹18 Cr Start – Will It Dethrone Housefull 4?

June 06, 2025: Akshay Kumar’s return to his signature comedy genre with Housefull 5 has generated a solid opening at the box office. According to early estimates by Sacnilk.com (as of 8 PM), the film has collected ₹18.55 crore on Day 1.

The fifth installment of the popular Housefull franchise made headlines not just for its star-studded ensemble, but also for its unique dual-ending format — Housefull 5A and Housefull 5B — both of which released simultaneously in theatres.

Despite mixed reviews and a modest 23.29% Hindi occupancy on Friday, Housefull 5 managed to outpace Akshay’s last release, Sky Force, which opened with ₹11.50 crore. However, it slightly trails behind Housefull 4, which had opened at ₹19.08 crore in 2019.

About Housefull 5

Directed by Tarun Mansukhani and produced by Sajid Nadiadwala under Nadiadwala Grandson Entertainment, the comedy is a whodunit set aboard a luxury cruise ship. The plot kicks off with a billionaire (played by Ranjeet) being mysteriously murdered after naming his heir “Jolly.” The catch? There are three Jollys on the ship — played by Akshay Kumar, Riteish Deshmukh, and Abhishek Bachchan. As suspicion spreads, their girlfriends also come under the scanner.

The film features an ensemble cast including Nana Patekar, Fardeen Khan, Jackie Shroff, Johny Lever, Jacqueline Fernandez, Nargis Fakhri, Chunky Panday, Sonam Bajwa, Dino Morea, and Soundarya Sharma.

Critics say the film leans heavily on Akshay Kumar’s comic timing rather than clever writing. An excerpt from Hindustan Times reads, “Akshay knows exactly what’s expected of him. This is classic Akshay comedy territory, and he makes even the flat writing work. But it’s also clear that Sajid is relying far more on his star’s charm than on crafting genuinely funny material. Often, the jokes are a joke.”

With an extended weekend ahead, all eyes are on whether Housefull 5 can maintain momentum and break past franchise records.
