How Did Kate and William Help a Brave Teen Fulfill Her Final Dream?

June 19, 2024: Every November, a delicate Ice N Roses Early Rose blooms in a garden in northern England — a poignant reminder of 17-year-old Liz Hatton, a passionate photographer who touched hearts across the world during her brave fight with cancer. Among those most moved by her story were Kate Middleton and Prince William, who not only supported her during her illness but also helped fulfill one of her biggest dreams.

How Did Kate and William Help a Brave Teen Fulfill Her Final Dream?

Diagnosed with a rare and aggressive abdominal cancer known as desmoplastic small round cell tumor, Liz set out to complete a photography bucket list before her passing. Her journey caught the attention of the royal couple through a connection with an air ambulance charity supported by Prince William. Moved by her courage and passion, they invited her to photograph a royal ceremony at Windsor Castle, where Prince William presented honors — a moment Liz captured through her lens.

During the visit, Princess Kate, also undergoing chemotherapy at the time, made a surprise appearance and embraced Liz’s family, especially her younger brother Mateo. Liz later described the royal couple as “genuine, kind, and down-to-earth,” saying her favorite part of the day was watching her shy brother come out of his shell, thanks to the warmth of Kate and William.

Since Liz’s passing in November 2024, her family has carried her legacy forward through Capture, the world’s first charity focused on her rare cancer, raising over $163,000. Vicky Robayna, Liz’s mother, credits the Princess of Wales’s public support for raising global awareness and making their efforts possible. Even now, the royal family continues to honor Liz’s memory, inviting her loved ones to events such as Kate’s holiday carol service at Westminster Abbey and a garden party at Buckingham Palace — reminding the world of the deep human compassion behind the crown.
