Hrithik Roshan Praises Ranveer Singh’s Dhurandhar, But Questions Its Politics; Sparks Fury
The superstar lauded Ranveer Singh’s performance but sparked fierce online backlash after raising concerns about the ideology and messaging of the blockbuster spy thriller.
December 11, 2025: Ranveer Singh’s latest espionage thriller Dhurandhar, has proven to be a seismic force at the box office, effortlessly cruising past the ₹100-crore mark within its first week of release on December 5. The film’s critical and commercial success is continuing to generate significant industry buzz, with many of Bollywood’s elite praising the high-octane action and gripping narrative.
The film, which features a powerhouse ensemble cast including Ranveer Singh alongside Sanjay Dutt, Arjun Rampal, R. Madhavan, Sara Arjun, and Rakesh Bedi, centers on Indian undercover agent Hamza Ali Mazari as he infiltrates Pakistan’s criminal underworld.
Among the most high-profile voices to praise the film is actor Hrithik Roshan, who took to Instagram to share an introspective and emotionally charged review. Known for his appreciation of cinematic craft, Hrithik lauded the film’s immersive storytelling:
“I love cinema, I love people who climb into a vortex and let the story take control, spin them, shake them until what they want to say is purged out of them onto that screen. DHURANDAR is an example of that. Loved the storytelling. It’s cinema,” he wrote in his story.
However, in an unusually candid move, the War 2 actor followed up his praise with a thought-provoking critique of the film’s ideological direction, which is heavily rooted in India–Pakistan tensions.
“I may disagree with the politics of it, and argue about the responsibilities filmmakers should bear as citizens of the world. Nevertheless, can’t ignore how I loved and learnt from this one as a student of cinema. Amazing.”
Hrithik’s nuanced stance immediately ignited a fierce debate online, with his remarks polarizing social media users.
Criticism: Several users accused the actor of ‘going against national sentiments,’ arguing that the film’s narrative—which many view as tied to national pride—should not be questioned. Critics suggested his comments could damage his public image and invite unnecessary negativity toward the film fraternity.
Defense: Others viewed the statement as a mature separation of art and politics, praising the actor for acknowledging the film’s technical excellence despite his ideological reservations.
Despite the uproar, Dhurandhar is maintaining a victorious run, with early reports suggesting it is rapidly approaching the ₹200-crore mark in India alone.
The makers have capitalized on the massive success by announcing a sequel. Dhurandhar 2 is officially slated for release on March 19, 2026, promising to continue the saga of the mysterious operative.
