Hrithik Roshan Secures Personality Rights Protection from Delhi High Court — With One Exception
Hrithik Roshan has officially joined a growing list of public figures taking legal measures to safeguard their personality rights, with the Delhi High Court granting him significant protection—save for one notable exception.
In a recent ruling, the court upheld Roshan’s plea to protect his personality rights, directing the removal of specific online posts that used his name, image, and likeness without permission. These posts were deemed to infringe on his publicity rights, which fall under the broader umbrella of intellectual property law and aim to prevent unauthorized commercial exploitation of a celebrity’s identity.
However, Justice Manmeet Pritam Singh Arora made one exception: the court did not order the immediate removal of fan pages dedicated to the actor.
The development comes at a time when legal protection of personality rights is becoming increasingly vital—especially in the age of deepfakes, artificial intelligence, and rampant digital content reproduction.
As explained on the Lakshmikumaran Sridharan Attorneys website, personality rights comprise two key elements: the right of publicity, which protects a person’s image from commercial misuse, and the right to privacy, which safeguards their personal space and identity.
Roshan now joins a list of prominent individuals who have taken similar legal steps, including Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Abhishek Bachchan, Karan Johar, Sri Sri Ravi Shankar, and Sudhir Chaudhary.
The ruling emphasizes how essential legal protection is becoming for celebrities navigating a world where public image is not just personal—it’s property.
