Hugo Blick Assembles Star Cast for New Drama ‘California Avenue’

Los Angeles [US], June 18, 2025: Acclaimed creator Hugo Blick is back with a new BBC drama, California Avenue, featuring a stellar cast including Bill Nighy, Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Burke, and Erin Doherty. Doherty joins the project after her breakout role in Netflix’s Adolescence.

Set in a secluded, canal-side caravan park in the lush English countryside, the series follows Lela (Doherty) and her 11-year-old child, who arrive seeking refuge. Their arrival shakes up the peaceful community, setting the stage for a moving story of reconciliation, buried secrets, and unexpected love.

Nighy and Bonham Carter play Lela’s estranged parents, Jerry and Eddie, while Burke appears as Cooper, an enigmatic outcast showman.

Speaking about the show, Blick said, “Over the past few decades, whether through comedy, political dramas or even a western, I’ve looked to explore what television fiction can be. California Avenue is an exploration of the people who inspired me to want to do this.”

This marks another collaboration between Blick, Drama Republic, Eight Rooks, and the BBC, following acclaimed series like The English, The Honourable Woman, and Black Earth Rising.
