Speaking with anchor Siddharth Kannan, Muzammil shared that he and Deepika were in a relationship for two years when she first moved to Mumbai. “We were in a relationship for two years. I was the first guy she met in Mumbai,” he said. According to him, it was Deepika who took the first step and asked him out, while it was he who eventually ended the relationship.

At the time, Muzammil said, he was already a recognized public figure while Deepika was still finding her footing. “I was a star at that time, she was not. She is a superstar now. Everyone knows her; nobody knows me,” he admitted, adding that he remains a fan of her work and career growth. “She’s a beautiful woman. She is doing great, but the fact is what it is.”

Nostalgic Glimpses of Young Love

Muzammil fondly reminisced about their modest yet memorable moments. “We were kids then. We would go on dates in a rickshaw in the rain. That was very cute,” he said, recalling a time of simple joys and emotional connection. He mentioned that he had just started earning, and eventually bought a car, which made Deepika happy.

In one particularly sweet memory, Muzammil shared how he arranged for a DJ to play her favorite song on repeat for over an hour at a party. “Even with no money, the DJ played her favorite song again and again because I was friends with him. For an hour and a half, he just played that song because it was her birthday.”

Life After Love

Although they eventually went their separate ways, Muzammil revealed that they remained on friendly terms for a while. “Before she got married, we would talk sometimes. We would congratulate each other on our achievements.” However, they lost touch after Deepika married actor Ranveer Singh in 2018.

Despite the passage of time and the different directions their lives have taken, Muzammil’s recollections speak to a formative chapter in both their lives — one rooted in innocence, ambition, and the beginnings of stardom.
