“I Found It A Little Scary”: Jennifer Garner Explains Why She Won’t Return To The Met Gala

May 05, 2025: With the Met Gala 2025 just hours away, actress Jennifer Garner has confirmed she won’t be making a return to the star-studded red carpet, revealing that her first and only appearance in 2007 left her feeling overwhelmed.

In a December 2023 episode of Vogue’s “Beauty Secrets” series, the four-time Emmy nominee reflected on her Met Gala debut. “I went to the Met ball exactly one time,” Garner said, adding, “I found it a little scary, so I haven’t been back.”

Despite her hesitations, the night wasn’t without its highlights. Garner attended the event on the arm of legendary designer Valentino Garavani and wore a striking red Valentino gown. “I wore this magical red Valentino gown that night. I was his date, and that was really majestic and special,” she recalled fondly.

Garner isn’t alone in skipping the high-profile fashion event. Singer Zayn Malik, who attended only once in 2016, has also expressed disinterest in returning.

Similarly, Gwyneth Paltrow once described the gala as “so un-fun,” “boiling,” and “too crowded” after her 2013 appearance, though she did return in 2017 and again in 2019—suggesting her later experiences were more enjoyable.

While some celebrities politely decline invitations, others have reportedly been banned from attending altogether, adding to the event’s air of exclusivity, according to E! News.

The Met Gala, organized annually by Vogue and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, is widely regarded as fashion’s biggest night, drawing A-list stars, designers, and cultural icons from around the globe.
