Internet Trolls Singer Sonu Nigam, Mistaking Him for Cricketer Vipraj Nigam-Here's What Happened
New Delhi, April 11 – In a bizarre turn of events, playback singer Sonu Nigam has found himself facing a volley of angry comments from Virat Kohli fans, all due to a case of mistaken identity after the Royal Challengers Bengaluru star was dismissed during Thursday’s IPL 2025 clash.
Fans mistakenly flooded Sonu Nigam’s Instagram with trolling messages, thinking he was Vipraj Nigam, the leg-spinner from Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) who sent Kohli back to the pavilion for 22 runs.
“Big fan sir, but Kohli ko out nahi karna chahiye tha,” wrote one emotional fan.
“How dare you take Kohli’s wicket,” added another—unaware that they were addressing the man behind Kal Ho Naa Ho, not a KKR bowler.
The crucial moment came in the 7th over of the game when Kohli tried to play an inside-out shot off Vipraj Nigam’s bowling, only to mistime it and find Mitchell Starc at long-off, who completed a sharp sliding catch.
The dismissal turned the tide of the game, leading to a subdued RCB innings and plenty of frustrated fans—some of whom apparently didn’t bother verifying which “Nigam” was on the field.
Sonu Nigam is not the first Bollywood personality to suffer from cricket confusion. Just a day earlier, actor Arshad Warsi was bombarded with angry messages after Gujarat Titans’ Arshad Khan dismissed Kohli in another match.
One fan wrote under Warsi’s post with Ajay Devgn: “Kohli ko out kyun kiya?”
Neither actor has responded publicly to the trolling, though fans familiar with both cricket and cinema were quick to defend them and correct the confusion.
Known for timeless songs like Satrangi Re, Main Agar Kahoon, and Abhi Mujh Mein Kahin, Sonu Nigam continues to rule hearts with music—not spin bowling.
