June 17, 2025: Amanda Seyfried has taken a bold stand against Hollywood’s obsession with sequels, calling the trend “frustrating” and driven by profits rather than creativity.

In a recent interview quoted by Variety, Seyfried said, “I think it’s really scary and brave to do something original. It’s not scary and not very brave to do sequels. It’s just for money and it’s frustrating.”

Her remarks come during a blockbuster-packed summer with high-profile sequels like James Gunn’s Superman and Jurassic World Rebirth dominating headlines.

During a conversation with Superman star Rachel Brosnahan, Seyfried joked about the wave of sequels: “It’s Fantastic Super-park. Four Dinosaurs. Four Super Dinosaurs. I don’t know!”

Ironically, Seyfried herself has appeared in several sequels, including Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again and Ted 2. Yet she says she wouldn’t hesitate to join Mamma Mia 3 or a potential Jennifer’s Body sequel — but only if Megan Fox returns.

Brosnahan, who plays Lois Lane in Superman, expressed openness to sequels too: “Yeah, I’d come back. We had a great time.” She also urged actors to either commit to superhero roles or avoid them altogether: “Do it or don’t do it, and then stand by it.”Meanwhile, Superman is set to hit theaters on July 11.
