June 19, 2025: The gripping Malayalam crime thriller Kerala Crime Files is back with its second season, premiering on JioHotstar on June 20, 2025. With Aju Varghese and Lal once again donning the khaki, Season 2 dives into a fresh case titled “The Search for CPO Ambili Raju”, promising another round of intense investigation and compelling storytelling.

Is Kerala Crime Files 2 the Most Gripping Case Yet?

Before diving into the new season, here’s a quick refresher on the mystery that kicked off the series. Set in 2011, Season 1 opened with the discovery of a murdered sex worker named Swapna in a shady lodge. SI Manoj (Aju Varghese) and CI Kurian (Lal) are tasked with unraveling the case. As they begin chasing a suspect named Shiju, they run into dead ends—his address is fake, and even the sketch and CCTV footage fail to help. The only lead? A squint in his eye.

Across six tight episodes, the story follows the relentless police team as they sift through clues, face false alarms, and confront the harsh realities of sex workers’ lives. The show also humanises the investigators, with Manoj shown juggling his new marriage and duty, and his colleagues dealing with personal stresses of their own.

The real breakthrough comes when a hotel owner files a complaint against Shiju and provides his real address. Still, the trail grows cold—until the cops discover Shiju’s girlfriend, Sicily. Through her, they learn that Shiju works at a canteen in Angamaly. But here comes the twist: Shiju is employed in a police canteen! The final episode sees him confessing to the crime, though the motive feels underwhelming compared to the series’ intense build-up. It ends with a symbolic phone call, reminding us that in the world of law enforcement, new cases never stop coming.

Now, in Kerala Crime Files: Season 2, the same team—Aju Varghese, Lal, Navas Vallikkunnu, Sanju Sanichen, and Zhinz Shan—returns to track down missing CPO Ambili Raju, played by Indrans. The cast also includes Harisree Asokan, Renjit Shekar, Noorin Shereef, Jeo Baby, and others. This season is penned by Bahul Ramesh and directed once again by Ahammed Khabeer, continuing the gritty, grounded tone fans appreciated in the first season. Get ready for another pulse-pounding ride through Kerala’s underbelly.
