Is Lainey Wilson’s Road Romance Too Good to Be True?

July 6, 2025: Country music star Lainey Wilson is opening up about how she keeps her relationship with fiancé Devlin “Duck” Hodges thriving—despite a hectic touring schedule and long stretches apart.

In an interview with PEOPLE, Wilson emphasized the importance of being intentional with time. “You have to definitely carve out the time,” she said. “It has to be something that you’re very aware of, and you’re like, ‘Okay, I’ve got a day off here in 10 days. I’ve got to dedicate that day to spend time with my person.'”

Even though they often go days without seeing each other, Wilson says they never take their time together for granted. “We both need that and deserve that. We just try to soak up those moments as best as we possibly can,” she added.

Calling Hodges her “best friend,” Wilson praised his unwavering support. “He is one of the purest hearts and people that I have ever met. He is my biggest cheerleader,” she shared. “We don’t really play by the rules.”

The couple’s dynamic is far from traditional, but Wilson says that’s what makes it work. “We don’t get to see each other all the time, and I do live a lot of my life on the road, so we’re also kind of figuring it out as we go—which is fun,” she explained.

Despite the distance and the demands of her rising stardom, Wilson says the relationship is “easy” and filled with mutual respect.

Lainey Wilson and former NFL quarterback Hodges began dating in 2021 but kept things private until they made their red carpet debut at the ACM Awards in May 2023.
