Pakistani actress Hira Soomro shared “proof” of her casting in the Ranveer Singh-starrer, calling it anti-Pak; the photos, however, were expertly crafted by AI. This controversy highlights the concerning rise of highly realistic deepfake images in generating celebrity buzz and misinformation.
December 12, 2025: The film Dhurandhar has generated significant discussion, extending its reach beyond India into neighboring Pakistan. This buzz was amplified by a controversial claim made by Pakistani actress Hira Soomro on her Instagram account. Soomro alleged that she had been cast in Dhurandhar but ultimately rejected the role after concluding that the film was “anti-Pakistan.”
To support her claim, Hira Soomro shared images featuring herself alongside lead actor Ranveer Singh. She captioned the post, “Now haters will say these are AI ! I was casted in dhuradar movie but the moment i realised its an anti-Pakistan movie i refused it …. A proud pakistani (sic).”
However, the central twist to this story is that the photographs shared were confirmed to be AI-generated. The very realistic quality of the pictures highlighted the “dangerous” potential of Artificial Intelligence in creating convincing fake photos. Furthermore, Soomro had also shared content related to Akshaye Khanna’s character in the movie on her Instagram story.

The actress’s post prompted various reactions from netizens. One user humorously commented on the chemistry visible even in the fake images, while another pointed out an irregularity that betrayed the image’s AI origin: “Why do you have 3 ears in second picture?? I’m not saying it’s ai tho! But just out curiosity… lol (sic).” Addressing the core of the controversy, one netizen offered a corrective viewpoint, stating, “Let me correct you this is not an anti pakistan movie this is a anti terror movie (sic).”
The article also provided some background on the actress involved in the controversy. Hira Soomro is a Pakistani actress known for her roles in TV shows such as Tere Bin, Khuda Aur Mohabbat, and Tere Mere Sapnay.
An interesting detail emerged from her IMDb profile, which claims the 30-year-old was born in Nagpur, Maharashtra, India, leading to speculation about her birthplace and nationality. Separately, the news section noted the commercial success of the film, reporting that the Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar entered the ₹ 200 Crore Club by its seventh day at the box office.
