“Is This Our Job Now?”: Saif Ali Khan’s Priceless Reaction to Breaking Mirrors in Jewel Thief, Reveals Jaideep Ahlawat

The countdown to Netflix’s much-anticipated heist thriller Jewel Thief is on, and the cast is serving up fun anecdotes ahead of its April 28 release. In a recent chat with The Hindu, actor Jaideep Ahlawat shared hilarious behind-the-scenes stories of filming intense fight scenes with Saif Ali Khan, and the chaos they caused — especially to set mirrors.

“We broke so many mirrors during one fight sequence that Saif just laughed and said, ‘Is this our job now?’” Jaideep recalled, chuckling at the memory.

The Paatal Lok actor revealed that while the sequences were serious on camera, they were comical to witness from behind the scenes. The set was full of shattering glass, flying props, and the kind of physical action that demanded full commitment from both actors.

Jaideep also shared his admiration for heist films in general, citing Spike Lee’s Inside Man as one of his all-time favorites, especially for its layered narrative and sharp editing.

“A great heist film should stay one step ahead of its audience. The best twist is when viewers go, ‘Oh, I didn’t see that coming,’” he said.

Joining Jaideep in the interview was his co-star Kunal Kapoor, who plays a detective in Jewel Thief. Kapoor, who was last seen as a hacker in Don 2, emphasized that unpredictability is what sets great heist stories apart.

Alongside the thrills and twists, the film also showcases unexpected flair — including Jaideep’s dance performance in the track “Jaadu”, which has already impressed fans.

Directed by Robbie Gulati and Kookie Gulati, Jewel Thief: The Heist Begins stars Saif Ali Khan, Jaideep Ahlawat, Nikita Dutta, and Kunal Kapoor. The film is produced by Siddharth Anand and Mamta Anand, and premieres on Netflix on April 28, 2025.
