Veteran actor and performer Jaaved Jaaferi has voiced his disappointment with the current crop of dance reality shows on Indian television, saying most of them feel repetitive and lack originality. Jaaved, who was a judge and co-host on the iconic dance show Boogie Woogie, believes that despite evolving formats, modern shows fail to stand apart.

In an interview with The Times of India, Jaaved said that while there is no shortage of talented dancers today, the overall presentation of dance reality shows has become monotonous. “They all look the same. While the formats evolve, the core presentation rarely does. There’s great talent around, but nothing really stands out,” he remarked.

Reflecting on Boogie Woogie, which aired from 1996 to 2014, Jaaved stressed that the show succeeded because it was original and not inspired by international formats. “Back then, dancers didn’t have the kind of exposure they have now. Our show was original, not copied. If Boogie Woogie ever returns, it has to be a completely new version—different and fresh,” he added.

Boogie Woogie is widely regarded as a pioneer of dance reality shows in India and featured Jaaved alongside Naved Jafri and Ravi Behl as judges and hosts.

On the professional front, Jaaved was last seen in De De Pyaar De 2, released in November 2025, which also starred Ajay Devgn, Rakul Preet Singh, and his son Meezaan Jafri. His recent dance-off with Meezaan to the song 3 Shaukk became popular online. Jaaved will next appear in the fantasy thriller Mayasabha, directed by Rahi Anil Barve, slated for release on January 16, 2026.
