Jackie Chan Hilariously Warns: “We’ll Be 100 Doing Rush Hour 4!”

June 1, 2025: After years of fan anticipation, Jackie Chan has reignited excitement for Rush Hour 4 with candid remarks about the franchise’s past — and its uncertain future. While promoting his upcoming film Karate Kid: Legends, the 71-year-old action legend reflected on his Rush Hour journey and gave fans a hopeful, if slightly humorous, update on the long-delayed fourth installment.

When asked about his favorite film from the trilogy, Chan didn’t pick a clear winner — but instead offered a behind-the-scenes glimpse into how each movie felt to make.

“The first one: little money, little time. We shot it like, ‘Go, go, go, go!’ The second one: a lot of money, a lot of time. The third one: too much money, too much time. Too much money is no good,” he said.

His nostalgic tone hints at the raw charm of the original 1998 Rush Hour, which paired Chan’s disciplined Hong Kong detective with Chris Tucker’s fast-talking LAPD cop in a buddy-cop formula that became an instant hit.

Rush Hour 4: Still in the Air

While Chan didn’t confirm an exact timeline or production date for Rush Hour 4, he did express frustration over the delay, calling out the filmmakers and studio.

“Ask the director, ask the studio, ask the writer. Hurry up! Otherwise, Chris Tucker and me [will be] 100 years old. We’ll be old men doing Rush Hour,” he joked.

The humor underscores a serious truth — time is ticking. Both stars are aging, and with no official word from studios, fans remain in limbo. Yet Chan’s willingness to reprise his role alongside Tucker offers a glimmer of hope.

Back in 2022, both actors confirmed the project was in development. Tucker had said:

“Rush Hour 4, that’s something I definitely will probably drop in there because I love working with Jackie.”

Behind the Delay

One major hurdle has been the absence of Brett Ratner, who directed the first three films but has stepped away from Hollywood amid misconduct allegations. While a new creative team would be needed, Chan’s comments suggest he’s open to collaborating — with the right team and timing.

The Legacy Lives On

Even after nearly 25 years, Rush Hour remains one of the most beloved action-comedy franchises, with its blend of martial arts, mismatched buddy dynamics, and culture-clash humor.

As Chan put it, the original’s magic may have come from its simplicity — “little money, little time”. Whether that same spark can be reignited remains to be seen.

For now, fans can only hope the clock doesn’t run out before Lee and Carter team up one more time.
