Jackie Chan To Receive Prestigious Career Award At Locarno 2025

April 29, 2025: Legendary actor Jackie Chan is set to receive a prestigious lifetime achievement award at the Locarno Film Festival, in recognition of his remarkable contributions to global cinema. The Swiss festival, known for championing independent films, will pay tribute to the martial arts icon whose influence transcends borders and genres.

According to Variety, the festival will honour Chan for a career that has “bridged the gap between East and West.” Known for his dynamic blend of martial arts, comedy, and charisma, Chan’s filmography has helped shape both Hong Kong action cinema and Hollywood blockbusters.

The 71-year-old actor, director, and stunt legend will appear in person at the festival, where he will introduce two of his most acclaimed early works — “Project A” (1983) and “Police Story” (1985) — both of which he directed and starred in. These films are cornerstones of his legacy, showcasing not just his physical prowess but his innovation in stunt choreography and action filmmaking.

As part of the tribute, Chan will also participate in an onstage conversation on August 10, offering fans and film enthusiasts a rare opportunity to hear directly from the man whose fearless approach to filmmaking has inspired generations.

“Director, producer, actor, screenwriter, choreographer, singer, athlete, and daredevil stuntman — Jackie Chan is both a key figure in contemporary Asian cinema and one whose influence has rewritten the rules of Hollywood cinema,” said Giona A. Nazzaro, Artistic Director of the Locarno Film Festival.

Chan previously received an honorary Oscar in 2017, acknowledging his decades-long impact on the film industry and his unique contribution to cinema through a career spanning over 50 years.

The Locarno Film Festival, renowned for its open-air screenings and celebration of artistic cinema, will offer a global stage to celebrate one of the most beloved action stars in movie history.
