Jacob Elordi Reveals Grueling 18-Hour Makeup Days and “Isolating” Experience as Frankenstein’s Monster

In a new interview, the actor details the immense physical and emotional toll of his role in Guillermo del Toro’s upcoming film, admitting that his “angry” look kept people from approaching him on set.

August 21, 2025: Jacob Elordi, who will play the famous monster in Guillermo del Toro’s highly anticipated Frankenstein, has talked about the huge physical and emotional hurdles he faced while bringing the fabled creature to life. The actor told Variety in a recent interview that the part came with some unanticipated challenges, such as long hours in makeup and feeling alone on set.

Elordi said that the hefty suit and all the makeup and prosthetics took up to 10 hours a day to put on, so he had to wear it for about 18 hours straight. This change in appearance has an unexpected influence on social life.

Elordi remarked, “A lot of people wouldn’t come up to me.” He said that his “angry” look made it hard to get even simple items like water. Even though the role required a lot of hard work, Elordi said he felt a deep connection to it. He went on to say, “It’s the most at home I’ve ever felt playing a character and making a movie.”

Del Toro, who is known for his great use of practical effects, chose Elordi because of his “eyes,” which he claimed were “so full of humanity.” The director’s Frankenstein, which is based on Mary Shelley’s classic book, will cost $120 million to make and is being called “an incredibly emotional story” instead of a typical horror movie.

Oscar Isaac plays Victor Frankenstein in the movie, which also stars Mia Goth, Christoph Waltz, and Charles Dance. Starting on October 17, Frankenstein will only be shown in theaters for a short time. On November 7, it will be available to stream on Netflix throughout the world.
