Filmmaker James Cameron, known for Avatar and Titanic, will direct his first non-superhero film in over 15 years, calling the project based on a book by his longtime collaborator Charles Pellegrino, the most powerful story he’s encountered since the sinking of the Titanic.
August 6, 2025: James Cameron, a famous director, has said that his next project will be a movie based on the new book Ghosts of Hiroshima. This is a significant deal in the movie business. For almost 20 years, Cameron hasn’t made a movie that isn’t an Avatar movie. He believes that this one is a highly personal and tragic tale.

The movie, which is based on a book by Cameron’s long-time partner Charles Pellegrino, will be a scary look at the first nuclear attack in history. The news comes on the 80th anniversary of the bombing of Hiroshima, which makes the effort seem much more important.
Cameron, who is known for crafting movies like Avatar and Titanic that create universes, says he is “trepidation” about this new project. He said to the press, “This is the most powerful true story I’ve heard since Titanic.” He wants to present the story in a way that is “heartfelt” and makes people care about the characters.
Fans of Pandora don’t have to fear because Cameron also shared updates on the Avatar saga. Avatar: Fire and Ash will come released on December 19, 2025. In 2029 and 2031, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5 will come released. Before flying back to Pandora, Cameron is going to dig into the very real and sorrowful “ghosts” of Hiroshima.
