December 10, 2024: James Gunn has addressed the recent rumors surrounding his upcoming superhero film Superman: Legacy, confirming that the film will not undergo reshoots, but rather just a brief day-and-a-half of pickup shots.
These additional shots, according to Gunn, are meant to enhance the film but will not involve any new scenes or major changes to the storyline. Gunn clarified the matter via social media, reassuring fans and dispelling any concerns: “Sort of. Not a few days. We’re doing a day and a half of pickup shots. No scenes. No reshoots. Just a handful of individual shots to enhance the film,” he wrote on Threads.
This comes after Gunn wrapped up filming for Superman: Legacy at the end of July 2024, which was met with an outpouring of gratitude from the director. On Instagram, Gunn shared his heartfelt thanks to the cast and crew, expressing how their dedication and creativity brought the project to life. “God bless our cast and crew whose commitment, creativity, and hard work have brought this project to life,” he wrote. “I set out to make a movie about a good man in a world that isn’t always so much. And the goodness and kindness and love I’ve encountered on a daily basis on the set has inspired me and thrust me forward when I felt too spent to move on my own. Thank you all from the bottom of my heart. It has been an honour.”
He further reflected on the journey of making the film, emphasizing the meaningful experiences shared with the team: “The destination has been ‘Superman,’ but the journey has been the toil and the laughter and the emotions and ideas and magic we’ve shared together on set – and for that I am forever grateful.”
Superman: Legacy, which is slated for release on July 11, 2025, stars David Corenswet as Superman/Clark Kent, Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane, and Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor. Other notable cast members include Maria Gabriela de Faria as The Engineer, and a talented ensemble featuring Skyler Gisondo, Sara Sampaio, Sean Gunn, Edi Gathegi, Anthony Carrigan, Isabel Merced, and Nathan Fillion.
With the film’s release over a year away, the excitement is steadily building for James Gunn’s vision for Superman in the new DC Universe, especially after his success in shaping the tone of the broader DC reboot.
