James Gunn Confirms ‘Superman’ Runtime – Shuts Down Warner Bros. Interference Rumors!

June 03, 2025: With the premiere of Superman fast approaching, director and DC Studios co-head James Gunn has addressed fan questions about the film’s runtime and pushed back against rumours of studio interference. The highly anticipated film is slated for release on July 11, kicking off Chapter One: Gods and Monsters in the newly rebooted DC Universe (DCU).

Responding to a fan on Threads, Gunn confirmed that Superman will run 2 hours and 9 minutes, including both the credits and post-credit scenes. “Inclusive of credits/post credits, the runtime is 2 hours 9 minutes,” Gunn wrote.

He also dismissed claims that Warner Bros. forced edits to shorten the film’s length. “Zero truth to that,” Gunn declared, clarifying that the film is a DC Studios production and Warner Bros. has no authority over its creative direction. “They couldn’t even if that’s something they wanted to,” he added, firmly silencing speculation.

What is Superman About?

Written, directed, and co-produced by Gunn, Superman stars David Corenswet as Clark Kent, exploring his personal struggle to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his life in Smallville. This film is not just another retelling of Superman’s origin—it’s a pivotal entry in the new DCU timeline, built under Gunn’s vision.

Star-Studded Ensemble Cast

Joining Corenswet are:

  • Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane
  • Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor
  • Edi Gathegi as Mister Terrific
  • Anthony Carrigan as Metamorpho
  • Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner/Green Lantern
  • Isabela Merced as Hawkgirl

The movie will also feature characters from other DCU projects:

  • Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr.
  • Maria Gabriela de Faria as Angela Spica (The Engineer)
  • Milly Alcock as Kara Zor-El (Supergirl)

Gunn’s Superman promises more than action—it’s set to explore the emotional and moral core of Clark Kent as he learns to balance being a Kryptonian savior with his deeply human connections on Earth.

With a fresh cast, grounded storytelling, and a clear creative direction, this Superman marks the beginning of a bold new era for DC on the big screen.
