James Gunn Confirms ‘Superman Saga’ is Mapped Out and Ready to Go

DC Studios co-head James Gunn has confirmed that his upcoming Superman film’s story is complete and will directly set up the narrative for the new season of the fan-favorite series.

August 14, 2025: Peacemaker is the first step toward making the future of the DC Universe clearer. James Gunn, co-head of DC Studios, said at a recent premiere event that the second season of the John Cena series will be very important for linking up future projects, such the upcoming Superman movie.

Gunn said that he has finished the “treatment” for the plot of what he calls the “Superman Saga.” Production is set to start soon. He also made it obvious that the next Superman movie will be directly related to Peacemaker Season 2, which is for adults. Gunn told The Hollywood Reporter, “This season of Peacemaker is all about setting up the rest of the DCU after Superman.”

The director, who feels the next season is his best work, said that it will include a lot of known characters and guest actors from the new Superman movie. Cena said that the season will pick up where the last one left off and follow the 11th Street Kids on their next journey while also carrying the larger DCU story forward.

The second season of Peacemaker will start on August 21 and is part of the “Gods & Monsters” chapter of the DCU. There are a lot of big projects on this docket, like Supergirl and Clayface in 2026, a new Wonder Woman movie, and a new Batman in The Brave and the Bold.
