April 4, 2025: James Gunn, co-chairman and co-CEO of DC Studios, unveiled the first footage from the highly anticipated Superman film, just hours before the Disney/Marvel presentation at CinemaCon. The exclusive footage, which had been initially showcased at the event on Tuesday, gave fans a sneak peek into the upcoming DC Studios movie, starring David Corenswet as Superman, Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor, and Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane.
Gunn took to social media to share the footage, stating, “Check out this Sneak Peek of #Superman, flying into theaters July 11.” The clip featured an iconic scene with Superman’s loyal dog, Krypto, and their heartwarming reunion. Additionally, the footage gave a glimpse of Superman’s Fortress of Solitude, where he is tended to by robots after being injured.
At CinemaCon, Gunn spoke about the inspiration behind the film, revealing that he was first offered the Superman project back in 2018. “I was like, ‘Oh my god, that seems so cool… it seems hard.’ But it stuck with me, and it was a constant thought experiment in my mind. How can you take a character like that, perceived as old-fashioned by many, and make it for a modern audience?” he said.
Gunn emphasized that the film would celebrate kindness and human love, with an overarching goal of making audiences feel “magical” as they left the theater. “I want people to have that magical feeling when they come out of the movie, and they love the person they came with a little more than when they went in,” he added.
The Superman film, set to hit theaters on July 11, will be the first DC Studios film under the new leadership of Peter Safran and James Gunn. This project marks the beginning of a new era for DC Films, as the duo takes charge of the studio’s creative direction.
