January 24, 2025: The first look at Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow has definitely sparked a lot of buzz! It’s exciting to see Milly Alcock in the role of Kara Zor-El, and her post on Instagram makes it feel even more real.
James Gunn’s enthusiasm for the film is infectious, especially with his praise for the director, Craig Gillespie, and the unique direction they’re taking with the character.
This version of Supergirl sounds like a departure from the more traditional, hopeful portrayal we’re used to. Her backstory, marked by witnessing the destruction of Krypton, is definitely darker and adds a new layer of depth to her character. It’s a fresh take that could really resonate with both long-time fans and newcomers who are looking for a more intense superhero story.
The cast lineup is also intriguing. Matthias Schoenaerts as the villain, Krem of the Yellow Hills, alongside Jason Momoa as Lobo, sets the stage for some seriously compelling dynamics. Plus, the inclusion of Krypto the Superdog should bring a touch of warmth to the darker themes.
Given the excitement from Gunn and the promising direction, I think this could be a hit. However, it will be interesting to see how fans react to such a different take on Supergirl. What do you think? Are you excited to see this grittier version of Kara Zor-El?
