Janet Yang Re-elected as Academy President for Third Term
Janet Yang has been re-elected for a third term as the president of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, according to Variety.
Yang’s re-election marks a continued era of leadership, alongside other newly elected board officers, including Lesley Barber, DeVon Franklin, Donna Gigliotti, Lynette Howell Taylor, and Howard A. Rodman.
Academy CEO Bill Kramer expressed his enthusiasm for Yang’s extended tenure, saying, “I am thrilled to have Janet return as Academy President for a third term to continue our great work of the past two years.” He further added his appreciation for the dedication of the newly elected officers, anticipating collaborative efforts to advance the Academy’s mission, support its global membership, and celebrate international filmmaking.
Yang, who has served as a Governor-at-Large for six years, has a long-standing history within the Academy’s Producer’s Branch since 2002. Her notable production credits include acclaimed films such as ‘The Joy Luck Club,’ ‘The People vs. Larry Flynt,’ and the Oscar-nominated ‘Over the Moon.’ Additionally, Yang earned an Emmy for her work on HBO’s ‘Indictment: The McMartin Trial.’
The re-election of Franklin, Howell Taylor, and Rodman further solidifies a strong leadership team, with Gigliotti returning as an officer and Barber stepping into a new role.
Variety notes that board members are subject to a lifetime maximum of 12 years of service, with terms and roles regulated to ensure ongoing opportunities for leadership within the Academy.
